Naturally, we are specialists at designing and building houses but we also have a few tricks up our sleeves when it comes to designing the interior of houses. Below we have compiled a list of the best tips so you can ensure the inside of your home looks just as great as the outside!
Choose a consistent theme
The very first thing you should do is find a theme you love and go with that throughout the whole space. A consistent theme is always the way to go, and once you have that, the fun really begins!
Create a focal point
In each room you want to have one piece that really stands out, a piece that is clearly the main focal point. By letting one thing shine, and having everything else work alongside it, you will create a fantastic space. There is nothing worse than having to many competing features in one space.
Make lighting a feature
Lighting is often overlooked when it comes to interior design, but there are so many fabulous designs out there which allows you to utlise lighting as a feature in every room. Little things like having down lights above a mirror or piece of artwork can help to create a wow factor in a room. Hanging pendants are also a fantastic way to create a showstopper.
Use both patterns and textures
By using more than one pattern or texture you can really create a feeling of warmth throughout the house. Whether you choose to utilise a few different pillows, rugs or the likes, these small touches are what will make your house a home.
Utilise rugs to soften hard floors
There is nothing worse than feeling a sense of cold when you are in a home, however, it happens so often, especially when hard, cold flooring options are used, such as timber or tiles. A great way to soften the area is to use a rug to break it up a little bit.
Add in natural greenery
We love it when people utilise plants as decoration. However, make sure you use real plants – fake flowers etc can end up looking cheap and tacky. Plants can really help to liven up any space, just make sure you don’t overdo it! You definitely don’t want your home to look like an indoor garden.
Art and accessories
This is probably one of the more obvious interior design tips. Art and accessories, such as candles and photo frames, can really create a unique feeling throughout the home. These pieces have the ability to brighten up any space and give it character, making it feel very personalised.
Don’t overcrowd a room
There can be so many things to think about, but sometimes, simple really is best. Don’t put too much into one space and make sure it really has a clear design – don’t try and cram too many ideas into one space.
Overall there are many different things to consider when it comes to designing the interior of a home, however, don’t get overwhelmed! Take your time, enjoy the process, and most importantly, create a home that you love by using products, furniture and accessories that you fall in love with at first sight. Happy designing.
